VA: Kraj Vardarot Jazz Vol.1 [pmgjazz 016] 2021

2020… it’s been a hell of a year, ain’t it?
We released so much stuff, we even managed to come up with a vinyl. Yup, this compilation is originally pressed on a vinyl, which is finally out.
It tells a story of an authentic and fresh scene, developing in Skopje, Macedonia. PMGJAZZ is at the heart of it. Possessing a great variety of jazz angles, it is deeply enjoyable, and still quite informative of what we do around here. But taking pride in achievements is not our favorite way of spending time. We offer this in our most sincere fashion and move on to new, quality releases, just waiting to be listened. It’s only yours to purchase. Than comes enjoyment 🙂

Taxi Consilium: The Essential Sunday Gloom [pmgjazz 024] 2021

Taxi Consilium is the spiritual conjointment of four well established musicians on the PMG Jazz label and the unwholesome Macedonian Jazz Æther (Cobalt Code Unit, Yordan Kostov Quintet, Filip Bukrshliev Trio, Fighting Windmills, Svetlost Odron Ritual..), guided by the eternal wisdom of seasoned taxi drivers prowling the desolate city streets at 3 in the morning. It is epitomic after-midnight music. Maybe what Eric Dolphy would play if he was a character in a Thomas Pynchon novel. A doped up horn man who moonlights as a P.I. It is the wail of a lonely clarinet playing counterpoint to the dim sounds of fornication from the other room. Shadows and smoke, distant ominous laughter. A free-jazz hard-on in a shady dark alley.

Kanton6: Thee Blood of Bogomil (Bogomilska Krv) [pmgjazz 023] 2021

Thee Blood of Bogomil (Bogomilska Krv) is an ancient brand of ale, which was drunk at the first Jazz Karneval, which took place exactly 500.000 years ago on the holy mountain of Galichica, in between two macedonian lakes. Thee beer was blood red and thick and it hits you as train. It was fucking strong, more like a drug that lasts for centuries.
We uncover a special part of hEEstory concerning the roots and beginnings of jazz music as an original macedonian traditional music. Stay put.

Filip Bukrshliev Trio: A Disc Jockey’s Crisis of Conscience [pmgjazz 022] 2021

Filip Bukrshliev is slowly and gracefully shaping in to one of the finest macedonian guitar players. He’s been places in the past, but it seems his jazz guitar kinda glued to his musical being and it handed him over a special power to write almost enchantingly beautiful music of lately. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a fair share of weirdness surrounding his aura, but his playing and composing skills are constantly perfecting, gracing our mere mortal’s souls with shots of pure musical substance. This music is out there. A tasteful affair. Treat yourself. You deserve it.

Yordan Kostov Quintet: Come Back [pmgjazz 021] 2021

You know Yordan Kostov… a composer, accordionist, adventurist and a quintet leader. Well he has nailed it again. In fact, THEY have done it again. The quintet. It is a great joy to listen, promote and release another piece, another sweetheart done by this marvelous people. It is the well documented magic from “Plush Pig” [PMGJAZZ009], maybe a little bit darker now… and then again maybe not. Take “Terminals” for example: a proper hit ladies and gentlemen. Anyway, you’re in for a cosy free ride with several shots of Martini Roso and an occasional bump into mellow darkness. Your afternoons are just about to get better 🙂

The Quintet:

Yordan Kostov
Andrea Mirchevska
Filip Bukrshliev
Dragan Teodosiev
Damjan Grujo

Recorded and mixed by Bojan Ugrinovski

Dino Imeri: Reflections [pmgjazz 019] 2020

Ladies and gentlemen
You’re up for a treat with this one. A bit different from our previous releases, but right on track faithful to our vision of pushing quality and variety. It is a piano album, composed and played by our young friend Dino Imeri, one of the new guard Macedonian contemporary musicians. Warm and fluid, with a clear intention to communicate with every possible listener, it is a proper introduction to a subtle, so far hidden world of a very bright and talented boy. It just might overwhelm you with it’s simplicity and plain beauty. And this is only a beginning… a proper start to a sonic friendship.

Zulu 3.4: Live Kraj Vardarot [pmgjazz 018] 2020

Skopje. It’s a jazz rock city. Well in the 70s… and the 80s… it was all about Leb i Sol, Den za Den and some less known enthusiasts who traded this esoteric style for than ever present new wave. So the city got the roots. FF 2020s and we get this new generation playing their jazz rock. We get the reminiscence just be calmed where the jazz we are, but this kids own some ground of their own. With the band already in possesion of two self released albums, PMGJAZZ seized the opportunity to enjoy them live on their own festival and recorded the music this kids played. So here it is, a live album and it’s well worth it. Young, fluid, authentic and full of enthusiasm. Quality stuff that will make a repetitive listener out of you.
