This kids stayed at home and took care. They washed their hands frequently and opened the windows so the polluted air can clean their lungs disease free. Managed to avoid this global plague of the human spirit, by making love to the music. This music feels like young people making love, pumping the juices out of the window, aiming to flood this abandoned city with a refreshing tonic that spells over the edges of thee fountain of youth. So don’t you rush to dismiss 2020 as the worst year ever. 536 was worse. In fact, 2020 is not a year any more. Now it is a Dj Magija song and frankly it’s a damn good one. Put this in your pocket, use it as a stardust, light up some dark sky somewhere. Trust me it works.

Musically, this single is quite a transforming point in the band’s carrier. Taking Trap/Hip Hop form is a means of communication with the contemporary listener, also fulfilling thee inner need for making such beats. But this band has always been about changes and experimenting with new stuff. Essentially the rhetorics stays quite art rocky and layered, with a pinch of almost incredible surprise, which is the band sampling gipsy folk singer as a rhetorical punch line. The song is about the wholeness and integration and accepting whatever reality brings on your door. Yup, this song is about the city they live in. And themselves as sub entities.

Nie sme od SKopje // We are from Skopje
is a song that developed as an idea which managed to grow in to a credo for several generations of progressive thinking people in Skopje, Macedonia. In the last 15 years, local musicians scored almost 30 different visions of this song. Some of those became real radio and dance floor hits, some found their way in films… but the idea basically took over and produced unprecedented creativity, which added substance to thee spiritual growth of our city.
This is completely new set of music on the subject. Quite fresh and contemporary. Jazzy, dubby, clubby, electrifying… it will hold your (shorten) attention (span). It will tell you a story about one of culturally most potent and fragile European capitals. It will sing you a song over and over without getting bored.

We should probably treat this song as a prophecy fulfilled, but being reasonable and modest, we will offer it as a new chapter in an ongoing contemplation, above whatever cultural progress we should achieve here in Skopje. A challenge to ourselves so we can do better. We must.

recorded & mixed @ Lepi’s BedroomAudio Workshop, during the Covid-19
Lockouts through March, April & Mai. It all started from the thing that
has been 10 years after “Nie sme Od Skopje” came officially out, which was
a huge success, as for pmg collective, but also for my then active band,
called the John (which did a remix of the original track). That theme ( the beat,
the bass line, the singing & the style “diskoPunk” in general) got very deep
underneath my skin, it basically started running through my veins, because back then
my gang was especially by the sond DFA recordings was releasing, and today (10 years after)
we still exist, as musicians if not as band, and still enjoy makeing music, more than ever,
so when I was asked to do remix of my remix (or something like that) I just could not get
sattisfied with only 1 track (which was the orriginal deal), instead I made a spontaneus,
half an hour “diskoPunk” Jam which I named “Sk-842-Ui”, bytheway that’s the number of
my car plates, if not too obvious 😉 … hope u’ll like it and play it around. I shure did haf
a lot’s of fun making it, and it’s danceable music, which I did all by myself,
using beat samples, a bass guitar, few synhts and a Jazzmaster.
